Football season is here and it's big news! Favre is with the Jets, leaving Pennington to be snatched up by the Dolphins, and the Steeler's chose Leftwich over Culpepper!

5 Hour Electrical Code
OVCEF will be conducting a 5 hour electrical code course at the Dickman Center for Customer Education. This course is designed for the experienced electrical contractor to obtain continuing education credits required by the OCILB for license renewal (approval pending). Registration will be handled by OVCEF. More information is forthcoming. (For your pre-planning purposes, this course will be available again on March 14 & October 17, 2009.)

5 Hour Safety & OSHA 10
The OVCEF Will be conducting a two-part Ohio Contractor License Renewal Course at the Dickman Center for Customer Education. Attend 5 hours of safety to fulfill electrical continuing education requirements or stay for the full 10 hour OSHA Safety to acquire credits for all trade licenses (pending approval). Registration will be handled by OVCEF and more information is forthcoming. (For your pre-planning purposes, this course will be available again on March 21 & October 24, 2009)

H&R Mfg. and Supply, Inc. Increases Sawing Efficiency in the Material Handling Department
H&R Mfg. and Supply, Inc., manufacturer of workholding products such as chuck jaws, was considering the purchasing of an additional saw in order to meet production requirements. During the evaluating process, company management decided to make sure that the current production saws were reaching their maximum potential. H&R operators have been using the same type of blade for over five years without regard to the advancements in the technology of saw blades.
It was at this point, that Derek Hivnor, son of owner Harvey Hivnor, began searching for different options. Contact was made with Craton Brooks of the M.K. Morse Company to determine what was available. Mr. Brooks, with his extensive experience and knowledge in this field, initiated a visit and evaluation of the needs of H&R to determine what saw blade and configuration would be the best for H&R applications.
A second visit followed with Mr. Brooks and Bryant Sanford, sales representative at C.W. Rod Tool Company, not only delivering a proposal and testing the saw blades, but spending considerable time checking the production saws and providing information in a tutorial session. Prior to testing, the machines were calibrated and coolant level and flow checked. The tutorial session was attended by H&R Mfg. material handling personnel.
Mr. Brooks explained the process of sawing - what the personnel needed to look for in the machine from the chips, color and thickness, to explaining why a cut was crooked because of too much force.
The first application was to see how fast the saws would be able to function when pushed to their limit. After some tweaking in speed versus durability, an output was determined that produced over three times as many cutting inches in less time. The H&R Mfg. Material Handling Department is now working only eight hours per day with the same output in lieu of the 10 to 11 hours previously worked.
"Thanks to the service and knowledge provided to H&R by Craton Brooks and staff, H&R is more in tune to the technology of sawing and more efficient processes for increased production and productivity through minimal expenditure," said Harvey Hivnor, president. "H&R is now getting 'more bang for the buck' thanks to the excellent technical service provided by Craton Brooks of the M.K. Morse Company and Bryant Sanford of the C.W. Rod Tool Company."

The overall operational goal is to reduce handling time and second operations, and H&R Mfg. and Supply has been able to reduce cycle time for some parts from three hours to 30 minutes.
